Some of Our Methods

Transactional Analysis

What it is:

Transactional Analysis (TA), developed in the 1950s by psychiatrist Eric Berne, is a theory of personality and communication. Berne believed that we carry internal “scripts” based on childhood experiences that influence how we think, feel, and interact with others. TA categorizes our internal states into three “ego-states”: the Parent, Adult, and Child, which influence our behaviors and interactions.

How it works:

TA helps you identify the subconscious patterns driving your behavior. By understanding which “ego-state” you’re operating from in different situations, we can uncover why you react the way you do and, more importantly, how you can make more intentional choices. During our sessions, we'll use simple, relatable language to break down complex emotional patterns. You’ll learn to recognize when you’re in a natural or adapted “Child” mode, a nurturing or controlling “Parent” mode, or a rational “Adult” mode, and how to balance these states in a way that serves your goals and values.

What you can expect:

If you’ve ever felt trapped in repetitive patterns or relationships, TA is a powerful way to break free. It doesn’t just focus on “healing”—it’s about gaining insight into the roles you play in life and the unconscious beliefs driving your choices. With this knowledge, you’ll be equipped to rewrite your narrative and step into a more empowered version of yourself.

Somatic Experiencing

What it is:

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-centered approach to healing trauma and stress. It was developed by Dr. Peter Levine in the 1970s, drawing from his observations of how animals in the wild respond to threats. Unlike humans, animals don’t stay “stuck” in a state of fear or anxiety after escaping danger—they release the energy and move on. SE uses these principles to help people process and release trauma held in the body.

How it works:

Trauma isn’t just a psychological experience; it’s stored in the body. Somatic Experiencing focuses on physical sensations rather than just thoughts or memories. In our sessions, I’ll guide you to tune into your body’s sensations, noticing tension, tingling, or warmth, for example. We’ll work with these sensations at a manageable pace, allowing your body to naturally release stored stress. This gentle, gradual process helps restore a sense of safety and control in your body.

What you can expect:

Somatic Experiencing is perfect if you feel “stuck” or if traditional talk therapy hasn’t fully resolved issues around stress or trauma. You don’t need to relive painful memories to experience relief. Instead, we’ll focus on reconnecting you to your body and calming your nervous system, giving you the tools to handle life’s challenges with greater resilience and calm.

Dynamic Balance Model

What it is:

The Dynamic Balance Model (DBM) is all about finding equilibrium between two core states: Momentum and Stillness. Many of us naturally lean towards one side, either feeling at home in constant movement or in a place of quiet presence.

When you’re in Momentum, you’re driven, active, and on-the-go. This energy can help you push forward, take initiative, and achieve goals. But if Momentum dominates, it can lead to stress, burnout, or a loss of connection with yourself and others. Stillness, on the other hand, is about calm, reflection, and taking time to breathe. It’s essential for recovery and insight, yet too much Stillness can result in avoidance, inaction, or isolation.

How it works:

DBM helps you understand your natural pull toward Momentum or Stillness and how it impacts your life. We’ll work on cultivating flexibility, allowing you to transition seamlessly between the two as needed. You’ll gain the ability to lean into Momentum when it’s time for action, and embrace Stillness when it’s time to pause and reflect.

What you can expect:

If you find yourself bouncing between high energy and complete withdrawal—constantly “on” or persistently “off”—DBM offers a way to reach a more centered state. This model isn’t about changing who you are; it’s about building the skill to navigate between Momentum and Stillness with intention. By developing this adaptability, you’ll build resilience and feel more aligned with your authentic self, moving through life’s highs and lows with confidence and ease.
